Texas executes second man in a week for triple killing during failed drug robbery
Ker'Sean Ramey, 41, was pronounced dead at 6:34 p.m. on Wednesday at the state penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas, following a lethal injection, abc13.com reports. He was executed for the August 2005 killings of three people at a rural home in Edna, a small city roughly 100 miles southwest of Houston.
Ramey became the sixth person put to death in Texas so far this year. Three more executions are scheduled in the state over the next two months.
A jury convicted Ramey of capital murder for the shootings of Samuel Roberts, 24, Tiffani Peacock, 18, and Celso Lopez, 38, at the home they shared in Edna. Court records show that Ramey and LeJames Norman believed the house contained cocaine and intended to steal it. The armed men found none and shot all three residents. Lopez was hit four times, including in the back of the head; Peacock was shot twice in the head; Roberts was struck five times in the chest, neck and head.
Norman, who lived across the street from the victims, was executed on 16 September at the same Huntsville facility — one week before Ramey.
Hours before Wednesday's execution, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Ramey's final appeal. His attorneys had argued that jurors were never told about the physical abuse Ramey suffered as a child or that he grew up in poverty. State prosecutors called the appeal "meritless" and pointed to what they described as an "escalating pattern of criminal behaviour" in his record.
Norman was arrested approximately five months after the killings while attempting to re-enter the United States from Mexico, where he had fled. During Ramey's trial in January 2007, Norman testified that both men had fired on the victims. Ramey's defence team placed sole responsibility on Norman. Ramey's former girlfriend, however, testified that she had been present when he threw two pistols into a lake after the killings, and that he described his involvement to her in detail. Norman pleaded guilty to capital murder and was sentenced to death in December 2008.
Including Ramey's execution, 28 inmates have been put to death across U.S. states so far this year. Florida leads all states with 15 executions to date in 2026, making it the nation's most active death chamber.
