Three individuals are in custody after police uncovered an alleged conspiracy to carry out a shooting at Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia, cbsnews.com reports. Authorities have confirmed there is no known ongoing threat to the school, though the investigation remains active.

The Canton Police Department launched its inquiry on 19 October after the FBI flagged threatening posts targeting the school on social media and alerted the school district's law enforcement department.

Detectives identified a juvenile Canton resident as part of the investigation, arresting them on 20 October. The minor faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and disruption or interference with the operation of public schools. Authorities have withheld the juvenile's name due to their age.

Two additional suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with the threats. Shane Keith Taylor, 17, of Metter, Georgia, and Michael Brandon Terry, 21, of Chatsworth, California, are both charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Taylor is held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. Terry is awaiting extradition to Georgia.

During the investigation, law enforcement seized firearms, ammunition, and electronic devices as evidence.

Canton Police Chief Marty Ferrell credited the swift response of multiple agencies. "The safety of our students and school staff is a top priority, and we take every threat seriously," Ferrell said. "I appreciate the quick action of our law enforcement partners and the dedication of our detectives in identifying and arresting the suspects."

Officials are urging parents to speak with their children about reporting any threats to law enforcement. Anyone with relevant information can contact the Canton Police Department at 770-720-4883 or submit a tip directly to the FBI.
