Off-Duty Deputies Lose Jobs and Licences Following Sunday Arrests

Two off-duty Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputies were arrested by San Antonio police in the early hours of Sunday morning and are no longer employed, ksat.com reports.

Damien Trevino, 25, and Damian Villegas, 19, both chose to resign from their posts rather than face termination, the sheriff's office said. Trevino, who had served with BCSO for four years, was charged with driving while intoxicated. Villegas, who had been with the office for one year, was charged with reckless driving.

BCSO confirmed that both deputies' Texas Commission on Law Enforcement licences were discharged under dishonorable conditions, effective immediately.

Sheriff Salazar issued a written statement making the department's position clear: "Our zero-tolerance stance is well known. Any employee who chooses to drink and drive or willfully endanger the public should not be surprised when they're suddenly unemployed."

Further details surrounding the circumstances of the arrests were not immediately available.
