Two men were fatally shot and approximately 35 others injured during a block party in Vienna, southern Georgia, in the early hours of Sunday morning, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has confirmed, as reported by jamaica-gleaner.com.

Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls identified the victims as men aged 20 and 23, both pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. Walls described what he found as "horrific."

Deputies from the Dooly County Sheriff's Office were already on patrol at the neighbourhood gathering when shots rang out at around 1:25 a.m., according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Officers discovered the two bodies and multiple wounded individuals upon responding.

Authorities have not confirmed whether any suspects are in custody or being actively sought. No motive has been established.

Police declined to specify how many of the 35 injured had sustained gunshot wounds or provide details on the severity of their injuries.

Vienna is located approximately 130 miles south of Atlanta and around 100 miles north of the Florida state border.
