SWAT standoff ends in arrest of murder suspect linked to Buckhead shooting

A suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting at a Buckhead apartment complex has been taken into custody following a prolonged SWAT standoff in Johns Creek, cbsnews.com reports.

Atlanta Police Department officers responded to the Mezzo apartments on the 2000 block of Peachtree Road NE in the early morning hours of 4 September, where they found a man with a gunshot wound in the parking deck. Grady EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. A second man, described by police as an associate of the victim, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.

Detectives subsequently identified 26-year-old Xavier Bryant as the primary suspect in the homicide and obtained warrants for his arrest.

On Friday morning, the Atlanta Police Department and the Johns Creek Police Department moved to execute a search warrant at a property on the 9100 block of Ferry Road. Bryant refused to surrender, prompting a SWAT response that lasted several hours before agents took him into custody.

Bryant now faces charges of murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Three other men — Brian Wingo, Charles Lewis, and Ky-Mani Goodings — had already been arrested on the morning of the shooting following a vehicle chase in Cobb County. All three face murder and armed robbery charges in connection with the same incident.

Authorities have not publicly released the name of the victim.
