Murder accused shot dead in robbery attempt at Georgetown cannabis farm
A 23-year-old man facing murder charges was shot and killed in the early hours of Friday morning while allegedly attempting to rob a licensed cannabis facility in Georgetown, iWitness News reports.
Joel Williams, a resident of Ottley Hall, was found by officers with multiple gunshot wounds on the grounds of the CANNASVG farm. A district medical officer pronounced him dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will determine the official cause of death.
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said officers responded to the property at approximately 12:10 a.m. following reports that two masked, armed men had broken into the facility. Police have not identified who fired the fatal shots.
A second suspect, whose identity remains unknown, fled before officers arrived and is still at large.
Williams had accumulated a significant criminal record over three years. In January 2023, the Serious Offences Court convicted him — then 18 years old — of possession of a pistol and five rounds of ammunition without a licence, relating to an incident on October 3, 2022, at New Montrose. During sentencing, then-chief magistrate Rechanne Browne remarked that her courtroom had become a gun court owing to the volume of firearm offences before her.
Later in 2023, authorities charged Williams alongside three other men in connection with a robbery and kidnapping spree at the Campden Park Industrial Estate. Those charges included entering premises as a trespasser while armed, assaulting a worker, and using force to remove a security guard from a warehouse.
Most recently, in February 2026, police charged Williams and fellow Ottley Hall resident Kyle Providence with the murder of Carl Quow, 24, of Chauncey, and with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of Jolani Thompson in Edinboro on February 6, 2025. Both cases were pending trial at the time of Williams' death.
