A 31-year-old Saint Lucian mechanic and biker has been charged with assault following an altercation with a police officer in Arnos Vale, St Vincent, on Friday, October 23, St Lucia Times reports.

Niguel Felix was arrested and charged the day after the incident.

According to a release from the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, Felix allegedly grabbed at the officer's regulation shirt while the policeman was carrying out his lawful duties. The shirt was ripped during the encounter and has been valued at EC$175.

Felix faces three charges: assault, obstruction of duty, and damage to government property — the last charge relating to the damaged shirt. He is expected to appear before the Kingstown Magistrate Court, though the police statement did not confirm a date for his hearing. The release also did not specify what triggered the initial encounter.

Felix was among a group of bikers who had travelled from Saint Lucia to St Vincent for the country's Independence celebrations that weekend. A video showing a confrontation between police and one of the bikers over a helmet has since circulated on social media.
