Three business owners near Arnos Vale sporting complex killed since 2023

Peter Minors, 48, was shot multiple times at his home in Arnos Vale early Saturday and died at hospital, becoming the 32nd homicide victim in St. Vincent this year.

Third businessperson shot dead near Arnos Vale sporting complex gap

Peter Minors, a 48-year-old businessman of Arnos Vale, was shot multiple times at his home around 2:45 a.m. on Saturday and later died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in Kingstown, iWitness News reports. His death raises the national homicide count for the year to 32, according to police figures.

Police said preliminary information indicates Minors was struck by multiple rounds before being transported to hospital, where he received medical attention but did not survive. Investigations into the killing are ongoing, and authorities have called on the public to come forward with any relevant information.

"Persons with information are encouraged to come forward, regardless of how insignificant the information may appear," police said in a statement.

The killing has drawn attention beyond the individual case. Observers who follow crime closely in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have noted that Minors is the third person — one of them a woman — who at some point operated a business near the gap to the sporting complex in Arnos Vale to have been shot and killed since 2023.

Jomo Brudy, April 2023

The first of the three was Jomo Brudy, also known as Top Dog, of Edinboro, who died in hospital on April 11, 2023, hours after he and another man were shot in Pole Yard, Arnos Vale. Brudy was working as a vendor in Kingstown at the time but had previously plied his trade in the same Arnos Vale area before relocating to the city.

The shooting was the fourth time Brudy had been struck by gunfire and the second time within a single year. Assailants shot him in the upper body — including the shoulder, neck, chest and abdomen — resulting in his death. He had survived an earlier attack in Pole Yard on March 3, 2022, in which another man was killed and a third was wounded.

Brudy's history with gun violence stretched back further. On Dec. 3, 2008, he was injured when a woman was killed after both came under fire in Ottley Hall. On May 8, 2009, he was shot outside his Edinboro home — one day after testifying in the preliminary inquiry into the woman's death, a case for which another man was ultimately jailed for 20 years in November 2012.

In May 2022, after eight months in custody, Brudy was cleared of murder in connection with the death of Shawn "Darkie" Gordon, a Rillan Hill resident found dead in Edinboro on Dec. 19, 2010, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Marilyn John, October 2024

The second victim was Marilyn John, also known as Maro, who operated near the supermarket at the sporting complex gap in Arnos Vale. She was shot and killed in Paul Over on Oct. 29, 2024, a few hundred feet from her home, becoming the 39th homicide victim in St. Vincent and the Grenadines that year.

Her death came just three months after her son, Jomarl John, was shot and killed in Pole Yard on July 13, 2024.

Multiple police units responded around 9:30 p.m. to reports of loud explosions in the Paul Over area. When officers arrived, they found John's van positioned crossways in the road with several windows shot out. She was unresponsive, lying back in the vehicle with blood flowing from her body, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Peter Minors — prior drug charge

Minors had previously appeared in the news in August 2024, when police charged him and Glen Louisien, a 22-year-old labourer from St. Lucia, with possession of controlled drugs. Louisien pleaded guilty to possession of 2,132 grammes of cannabis with intent to supply, relating to an incident in Arnos Vale on Aug. 26, 2024, and was ordered to pay a fine of EC$1,500 within one month or serve three months in prison. Minors pleaded not guilty, and the charge against him was subsequently withdrawn.

Police have not publicly indicated whether the three killings are connected or offered any theory as to motive in any of the cases. The investigation into Minors' death continues.
