Leibnitz police report findings after Halloween spotlight check
In the night of 1 November 2026, the Leibnitz district police headquarters conducted a large-scale spotlight check operation. According to kurier.at, several authorities were involved — including the Spielfeld police station, the State Security and Intelligence Directorate (DSN), the telecommunications authority and the vehicle inspection office of the Styrian State Government.
The operation ran from Tuesday evening, 5 p.m., until Wednesday morning, 5 a.m. The focus was on checks for alcohol and drug impairment, speeding violations, traffic and vehicle safety, and unauthorised vehicle modifications. The telecommunications authority and the DSN additionally searched for illegally installed signal jamming devices using specialist technical equipment.
The results were extensive: officers seized 40 pyrotechnic items, a quantity of marijuana and prohibited anabolic steroids. Four drivers were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol; in two of these cases, police officers provisionally confiscated their driving licences. Three additional drivers received citations for driving without a valid driving licence.
A total of 29 traffic violations were recorded. In five cases, police officers provisionally confiscated number plates due to serious technical defects.
Chief Inspector Heimo Moser, head of the traffic department at Leibnitz district police headquarters, was satisfied with the result: "The co-operation between the different authorities worked excellently. Through our consistent intervention, we were able not only to remove impaired drivers from the road in good time, but also to seize unauthorised pyrotechnics and illegally carried substances." According to Moser, such checks are "an essential component in sustainably ensuring traffic safety and public order in the region."
