"El Hormiga", Felcn informant, gunned down in Urubó in alleged settling of accounts

The investigation into the murder of José Luis Bravo, alias "El Hormiga", recorded in the Urubó area, has taken a new turn. According to El Deber, the Police intelligence services have determined that the victim was an informant for the Special Force Against Drug Trafficking (Felcn) and that his death would be the result of a settling of accounts.

Bravo was summoned to the location of the attack and arrived in a lead-coloured Toyota Fortuner. Once at the agreed location, he was attacked and received at least five gunshot wounds from a 9-millimetre calibre weapon. Before being shot dead, he argued with his attackers. At the time of the crime, he was carrying Bs 6,400 on him. After the attack, those responsible fled in another vehicle.

The investigation by the Special Force Against Crime (Felcc), in coordination with the Public Ministry, points to two members of the First Capital Command (PCC): Heleno da Silva Alex and Junior Fernando da Silva, both Brazilian nationals. According to the police report, the two men escaped from Palmasola prison on 6 August by taking advantage of a power outage, abseiling down one of the prison walls using ropes. Despite search operations, they were not located.

Heleno da Silva and Junior Fernando da Silva were being tried for murder and weapons trafficking. They had been previously captured for their alleged involvement in the death of José Ángel Castañeta, alias "Cara de bebé", also a Felcn informant. That crime occurred on 11 April of this year on Radial 26.

"Cara de bebé" had been identified by Police as having participated in the theft of more than one tonne of cocaine from a property of drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, located in the Oriental neighbourhood. According to reports, Castañeta was selling the stolen drugs on his own account, without sharing profits with members of the PCC.

The latest investigation indicates that Bravo, "El Hormiga", was executed by members of the PCC after having sold part of that same shipment of cocaine stolen from Marset's residence. The connection between both crimes—that of "Cara de bebé" and that of "El Hormiga"—places the PCC at the centre of a chain of reprisals against informants who were operating with the organisation's merchandise.

So far, Police have made no arrests in relation to the murder in Urubó. The investigation continues with witness statements, examination of public and private security camera footage, and other procedural measures.
