Leader of "Los Pulpos" detained in Bolivia: Minister Astudillo confirms arrest

Interior Minister César Astudillo confirmed on Wednesday the detention in Bolivia of Jhonsson Cruz Torres, alias "Jhon Pulpo", head of the criminal organisation 'Los Pulpos', which operates in Trujillo. According to cronicaviva.com.pe, Astudillo announced the news in statements to Canal N.
"A few minutes ago, the general commander of the Police informed me that Jhon Pulpo has been detained in Bolivia, the main leader of this criminal organisation. This main leader has finally fallen," the minister said.
The arrest was carried out by the Bolivian Police in La Paz as a result of tracking conducted from Peru and an outstanding warrant against Cruz Torres. Peruvian police teams had been tracking his whereabouts. Astudillo indicated that the transfer to Peru "must be immediate, they must put him on a flight today".
Link to the 30 August crime in Trujillo
Astudillo linked the detainee to the kidnapping of businessman Jans Marty Lara Tantaquilla and the murder of his four companions, which occurred in the early morning of 30 August in Trujillo.
"Everything indicates that it was them; investigations, experts from Dirincri say: 'It was Los Pulpos'. So far what the police is telling us with its experts is that it was Los Pulpos," the minister stressed.
Following the crime, Astudillo coordinated directly with the National Police. He ordered general commander Óscar Arriola to travel to Trujillo to conduct and monitor operations, accompanied by members of the Dirincri and two specialised teams. The minister himself remained in Lima.
"I did not travel because I had to attend to a delicate family situation for a few hours, but that did not interrupt my responsibilities as minister in any way nor the coordination of the operational response," he declared on RPP.
Astudillo rules out debate over Arriola's resignation
Asked about calls for the resignation of the general commander of the Police, Astudillo maintained that this debate cannot become a "distraction".
"We are all under evaluation. Arriola is technically qualified," the minister stated, closing the discussion about possible changes at the top of the police force amid ongoing operations.
