Arrest in Bolivia of Los Pulpos chief linked to extortion and kidnapping in Trujillo

Interior Minister César Astudillo confirmed the detention in Bolivia of Jhonsson Cruz Torres, alias "Jhonsson Pulpo", identified as the principal leader of the criminal organisation Los Pulpos. According to canaln.pe, the official revealed the information in a direct interview with the outlet.

Astudillo indicated that he received the news through the general commander of the National Police and intelligence teams that had been monitoring this organisation. Los Pulpos operates mainly in Trujillo and in other areas of the country, and has been linked to extortion, kidnapping and other acts of violence.

The minister specified that Cruz Torres would be the maximum leader of the gang and that he exercised direct influence over criminal activities in Trujillo. Astudillo also confirmed that the detainee will be transferred to Peru to answer for the criminal investigations against him.

However, the Interior Ministry chief avoided stating whether the capture of the gang leader would mean the definitive dismantling of the organisation. He indicated that the authorities will continue working to identify and arrest the other members of the gang, as well as to determine the degree of responsibility of each one in the crimes under investigation.
