Double murder in Guayaramerín: two youths riddled with 58 bullets
Two young Bolivians were shot at close range in Guayaramerín after being struck by a hired killers' vehicle. One received 41 shots and the other, 17.
Hired killers fire 58 times at two youths in Guayaramerín
Two young Bolivians were shot dead on Wednesday night in Guayaramerín, in the department of Beni, according to reporting by El Deber. Hired killers deliberately knocked them down with a vehicle while they were riding a motorcycle and then opened fire at close range: 41 projectiles struck the rider and 17 struck his passenger.
The departmental prosecutor for Beni, Alexander Mendoza, identified the victims as Edgar Justiniano, the motorcycle rider, and Dennis Junior Pantoja Pozo, his passenger. Both died from haemorrhagic hypovolemic shock, laceration of multiple intrathoracic and intra-abdominal organs and penetrating thoracoabdominal trauma from a firearm projectile, according to Mendoza's report.
The events occurred around 23:15. According to the prosecutor, the vehicle driver struck the motorcycle, causing both occupants to fall. Next, the vehicle driver's companion descended from the vehicle and fired at the two youths already on the ground. Despite the late hour, several neighbours came out of their homes after hearing the gunfire.
Flight towards Brazil and partially burnt vehicle
Following the attack, the hired killers fled in the direction of the Brazil border. Kilometres further on, they abandoned the vehicle and attempted to set it on fire, although the flames only consumed part of the motorcycle.
"We are working with the hypothesis that these individuals may have crossed into Brazil, but the Public Ministry together with the Police will continue with investigations to clarify the case," Mendoza stated.
The authorities are keeping the investigation open to determine the identity of the perpetrators and establish the motive for the crime.
