Double homicide in San Ignacio de Velasco shakes Cruz municipality

Two men were executed in separate incidents during the early hours of Sunday in San Ignacio de Velasco, Santa Cruz, according to El Deber. Among the deceased is Rodrigo Oliveira Zeballos, brother of the president of the Cattlemen's Association of that municipality.

Oliveira was attacked while sleeping in his home in the Pueblo Nuevo neighbourhood. According to preliminary reports, two armed men entered the property and shot him several times. The Police are investigating the circumstances of the attack, the motive, and the identity of those responsible.

Acquaintances of the victim described him as a peaceful person and expressed surprise and dismay at the crime. Oliveira reportedly managed several cattle estates belonging to his brother, was of Brazilian descent, and had been born in Bolivia. His remains will be transferred to San José de Chiquitos for burial.

Six hooded men break into another home in Guapasal neighbourhood

The second crime occurred in the Guapasal neighbourhood. Gabriel Posiabo Fernández, 22 years old, was found dead following the break-in by six hooded, armed men at his home.

According to the initial report, the attackers asked about a person known as "Camacho", owner of a red vehicle, and about a supposed drug shipment. The subjects allegedly tied up the parents and the young man, made a video call to confirm Gabriel's identity, and shot him several times before fleeing with mobile telephones.

The Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc) collected 21 nine-millimetre shell casings at the scene, which were placed under chain of custody for the corresponding forensic examinations.

Police investigate whether the two crimes are linked

The bodies of both victims were taken during the early morning to the morgue of the Dr. Julio Manuel Aramayo Municipal Hospital in San Ignacio de Velasco. Both presented wounds apparently caused by gunshot impacts.

The Bolivian Police initiated investigations to clarify the crimes and determine whether there is any connection between them. To date, it has not been officially confirmed that the attacks were carried out by hired killers or that both incidents are linked.

Investigators must also establish whether the victims maintained any connection with unlawful activities or whether the homicides respond to other motives. The relatives of the deceased hope that authorities will identify and apprehend those responsible.
