Bolivian justice has ordered the transfer to San Pedro prison of a Colombian national arrested during protests that kept the streets of La Paz blocked for 53 days. The house arrest measure that was in place against him has been lifted, so he will now serve preventive imprisonment in the penitentiary centre whilst investigations into his case continue.
The individual is under investigation for public incitement to commit crimes, linked to the demonstrations that affected the seat of government. According to a report published by the outlet eju.tv, a police representative indicated that the change in his legal status was ordered by the competent authorities. He added that investigation work continues actively, with the aim of tracing his participation and gathering the necessary evidence.
Faced with questions, the defendant chose to remain silent. He refused to comment on his possible involvement in the barricades or clarify the reasons that led him to be in Bolivia.
The decision to imprison him was based on a key difference with respect to the other seven individuals detained with him: whilst they possessed a fixed residence in national territory, the Colombian lacked an established place of residence. This circumstance led to the revocation of the home arrest measure and the decree for his admission to the prison, unlike his companions, who remained in custody at their homes.
