Urubó security guard reports 40-minute beating and destruction of his home

Alfonso Flores Chuvé, a security guard at the Bella Vista condominium in Urubó, is demanding justice after being attacked for approximately 40 minutes by four men who accused him of having participated in a robbery. According to El Deber, Flores's legal defence expanded the complaint to the prosecution for the alleged crimes of attempted homicide, unlawful imprisonment, death threats and criminal association.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 27 August, at around 18:30, whilst Flores was performing his duties at the condominium. Three people from the neighbouring Río Sierra condominium arrived and accused him of having participated in a robbery recorded on Sunday, 23 August at a property in the sector.

Flores explained to them that on that day he was working at Bella Vista and could prove his innocence. Shortly afterwards, a fourth man arrived, identified by the victim as a former soldier, who accused him of having stolen high-value jewellery from his home.

"He accused me of theft, he told me that I was the perpetrator and he didn't listen to me. Then he took out his brass knuckles and started beating me relentlessly. He told me he was going to kill me because his jewels were worth more than my life," Flores stated.

The guard attempted to escape, but the other three men shut the door to prevent him from doing so. One of them also tried to tear down the security cameras to erase the footage. The attack lasted nearly 40 minutes, until a neighbour heard the noise and alerted the police.

After leaving the condominium, the same four men went to the home where Flores lives as a caretaker, in the same area of Urubó, and entered the property causing damage. "After nearly 40 minutes of beating me they left. Then, the same subjects went to my house, entered it and destroyed everything," the victim stated.

His defence lawyer, Rolando Salvatierra, asserted that his client could have lost his life had it not been for the intervention of neighbours at the condominium who alerted the authorities. The complaint was filed that same Thursday with the police and the Porongo prosecution office.

The defence provided authorities with images from the security cameras, recordings of the attack, documentation proving Flores's presence at his post on the day of the robbery, and the bloodstained clothes he was wearing during the assault.

On Monday, the Forensic Research Institute (IDIF) granted Flores seven days of medical-legal incapacity, although the expert recommended that the victim be evaluated by a neurosurgery specialist and undergo imaging studies with a report from a radiologist. For Salvatierra, this certification is insufficient given the severity of the reported attack.

Five days after the incident, Flores stated that he continues to feel severe pain in his ribs, head and legs. His defence questioned that the four men named in the complaint have not been sought or notified by the authorities.

Salvatierra asked the public prosecutor to investigate the attack and evaluate the evidence presented to establish corresponding responsibilities.
