Bolivia's law enforcement is proceeding with investigations into Eduardo Valdivia, former head of Boliviana de Aviación (BoA), who faces an inquiry for possible criminal conduct committed during his tenure. Official Cheryl Sempertegui confirmed that conduct is being examined relating to extortion of officials, improper exploitation of his position, and obtaining benefits derived from his office.

The judicial procedure was initiated on the Public Ministry's own initiative. Currently, only one citizen has appeared to testify: parliamentarian Claudia Mallón, a member of the APB-Súmate group. The latter made public an irregularity that would have benefited the then executive of the state airline.

Mallón stated that Valdivia paid only 933 bolivianos for a return ticket from Miami to Bolivian territory, a fare that would differ substantially from the normal market cost, estimated at more than 5,000 bolivianos. Valdivia himself defended his actions by noting that company personnel enjoy reductions in flight fares.

The questioned official took up his position as head of BoA on 15 April and was removed on 8 June. For now, no date has been set for him to give testimony as an accused.

Sempertegui clarified that the criminal prosecution authorities still need to establish the time at which the former manager will be called to present his response.
