Mother and son arrested for drug trafficking in Los Lotes area of Santa Cruz
The Santa Cruz Public Prosecutor's Office has requested preventive detention for a 66-year-old woman and her 34-year-old son on suspicion of trafficking in controlled substances. Twenty additional people were arrested in the operation.
Anti-drug operation in Los Lotes yields 22 arrests in Santa Cruz
The Santa Cruz Public Prosecutor's Office opened criminal proceedings against Matea R. A., aged 66, and her son Leonardo A. R., aged 34, on suspicion of trafficking in controlled substances, according to El Deber. The operation was carried out on Thursday, 25 June at a property in the Los Lotes area, identified through intelligence work as a storage and distribution point for drugs.
Regional prosecutor Alberto Zeballos Flores confirmed that both individuals under investigation will be placed at the disposal of the judicial authority whilst the Public Prosecutor's Office requests their preventive detention. "This operation is the result of coordinated work between the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Bolivian Police to dismantle drug trafficking points," Zeballos stated.
During the raid, carried out in coordination with the Special Force for the Fight Against Drug Trafficking (Felcn), investigators seized over 100 envelopes containing 1,508 grammes of marijuana, 64 grammes of cocaine paste and two mobile phones. The property was also seized as part of the proceedings.
A further 20 people who were found in the vicinity or attempting to enter the property at the time of the intervention were also arrested. The Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the degree of involvement of each of them in the case.
The Public Prosecutor's Office will continue investigations to determine whether there are other individuals implicated in the alleged microtrafficking network and to consolidate charges against the main individuals under investigation.
