Minister links prosecutor Mariaca to drug trafficker Marset before Legislative Assembly
Government minister Marco Antonio Oviedo presented chronological evidence linking apprehended attorney general Roger Mariaca to drug trafficker Sebastián Marset.

Oviedo points to links between Mariaca and Marset in legislative report
Government minister Marco Antonio Oviedo stated this Friday before the Legislative Assembly that there are "chronological antecedents" linking drug trafficker Sebastián Marset to apprehended attorney general Roger Mariaca "as part of a criminal organisation". This is reported by El Deber, which followed the briefing the minister gave without taking questions.
Oviedo recalled that on 29 July 2023, Marset—Uruguayan drug trafficker currently detained in the United States following his extradition from Bolivia—managed to evade a police operation in Santa Cruz. "The chronological information provided to the office proposes investigating the circumstances of this evasion, the attribution of leaks or specific collaborations, which requires documentary support", the official stated.
The minister emphasised that on 13 March 2026 Marset was finally captured in Santa Cruz in an operation by the Bolivian Police, co-ordinated by the Government Ministry. In August and September of that same year, courts issued home detention orders in favour of Tatiana Marset—Sebastián's sister—and of three people investigated as members of the drug trafficker's security detail.
Oviedo clarified that these antecedents "do not in themselves constitute accreditation of the irregular status of a fiscal authority", but added that at the end of September 2026 audiovisual materials attributed to Marset were circulated in which mention is made of people now facing prosecution, including prosecutor Mariaca.
"In the audio and video he says that he counted on the friendship and protection of prosecutor Mariaca and he also mentions two people, former Government minister Eduardo Del Castillo and then-captain Aparicio, who now holds the rank of major, and that he was the one who carried the money to both Mariaca and Del Castillo", Oviedo quoted, warning that "the continuity, context, scope and probative value of this material should be verified".
Mariaca has been in detention since Wednesday evening 30 September, along with other individuals, accused by the Government of having led a "criminal organisation" dedicated to protecting drug trafficking.
