Trade union violence overwhelms central market at Satélite Norte
On Friday night, chaos engulfed the central market of Satélite Norte following a massive brawl between factions of merchants, according to reports from El Deber.
The dispute originates in a conflict between several trade unions operating in the market. According to sources consulted at the scene, one of these associations had allegedly hired a group of people with the intention of causing damage inside the premises. The stall owners responded to defend their space, which triggered the mass brawl.
Between six and seven of the aggressors were detained by the merchants themselves. Police arrived at the scene to restore order and transfer the detainees to police facilities, but were violently repelled by merchants and residents who opposed the operation. The uniformed officers withdrew while waiting for reinforcements.
Meanwhile, residents transported the detained individuals to the central plaza of Satélite Norte.
The intensity of the violence also forced press teams present at the scene to leave after receiving direct threats of assault.
