Police officer arrested for attempting to smuggle cocaine into San Pedro prison
A police officer working in internal custody at San Pedro penitentiary was placed under arrest on Friday morning. The man attempted to bring drugs into the prison facility when guards discovered him during a routine inspection of personnel.
The incident occurred around 07:00. Officials conducting the inspection were checking those entering the prison when they detected something suspicious in the officer's backpack. Upon examining the contents, they found a wrapper containing whitish material which, according to initial investigations, would correspond to crack cocaine.
The security operation included scanners, pat-downs and thorough inspection of bags and luggage. These actions form part of standard protocol to prevent the entry of prohibited items into the detention centre. The detained individual could not evade the inspection and was apprehended on the spot.
The Felcn will now investigate the alleged crime of drug trafficking. Concurrently, the Didipi will initiate disciplinary proceedings against the uniformed officer for conduct contrary to public duty.
