Prison sentence for cocaine smuggling via Hato to Bonaire
A 36-year-old woman has been sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment, six months of which are suspended, for attempting to smuggle more than 700 grams of cocaine to Bonaire. This is reported by now.cw based on reporting by morning newspaper Extra.
The woman was detained at Hato airport after customs officials found her behaviour suspicious during a check. During the inspection, she admitted to carrying drugs.
In a statement to police, she said she had acted out of financial necessity. Her employment contract had not been renewed, resulting in accumulated debts. For this reason, she agreed to transport the drugs.
Regarding the payment she would have received, the suspect claimed to know nothing. She refused to say for whom the drugs were intended.
The Public Prosecution Service demanded eighteen months in jail, six months of which suspended. The judge imposed exactly that sentence.
