Brazilian authorities conducted a joint operation in the Atlantic Ocean and intercepted a fishing vessel loaded with illicit substances. The action took place in international waters, near the coast of Suriname, and resulted in the seizure of approximately 3.7 tonnes of drugs.
The mission involved personnel from the Federal Police and the Navy, who travelled on a patrol vessel based in Belém, the capital of Pará. The operation took place within the scope of the 4th Naval District.
The action was made possible through an exchange of strategic data with North American agencies. Partners included the Drug Enforcement Administration and a task force linked to the Southern Command of the USA.
During a search of the vessel, agents located 3,748 kilograms of narcotics. The vessel and the people on board were taken for the appropriate legal proceedings, respecting national regulations and cooperation treaties between countries.
Investigation work continues in order to map the criminal network, locate possible associates, and determine the route and final destination of the seized cargo.
