Two police officers shot in Muquiço close Avenue Brasil in Guadalupe

Attack on police officers in Muquiço paralyses stretch of Avenue Brasil
Two officers from the Homicide Delegation of the Baixada Fluminense (DHBF) were shot on Wednesday after criminals attacked the patrol car in which they were travelling along Avenue Brasil, at the height of the Muquiço community, in Guadalupe, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, according to oglobo.globo.com. The vehicle was transporting four police officers in total. The wounded were taken to Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital, in Realengo.
One of the officers was hit in the head and is in serious condition. The other police officer suffered injuries to her left leg and is in a stable condition, according to information from the force.
Operation mobilises dozens of teams and two helicopters
In immediate response to the attack, civil police officers launched an operation inside Muquiço. Dozens of teams were deployed to traverse the community on foot. Two helicopters from the Special Resources Coordination (Core) are flying over the region.
In an official statement, the Civil Police stated that "attacks against public security agents represent a direct attack on the State" and guaranteed that they will continue "acting in a firm and permanent manner in combating factions and suppressing criminals".
Road closed and 36 bus lines with altered routes
The Rio Mayor's Office Operations and Resilience Centre (COR) issued an alert advising drivers to avoid the region. One lane of the side lane and another of the central lane were closed in the direction of the city centre, near the Guadalupe BRT station. BRT operations were not affected.
As a result of the confrontation, 36 bus lines had their routes altered, as reported by Rio Ônibus. Among the affected lines are the 300 (Sulacap x Candelária), 369 (Bangu x Candelária), 378 (Marechal Hermes x Castelo), 384 (Pavuna x Passeio), 386 (Anchieta x Candelária), 397 (Campo Grande x Candelária), 669 (Pavuna x Méier), 737 (Santíssimo x Cascadura), 754 (Santa Cruz x Terminal Deodoro), 777 (Padre Miguel x Madureira) and 908 (Term. Deodoro x Bonsucesso), among others.
Schools in the region continue to operate
The Municipal Department of Education (SME) reported that school units in the Muquiço area operated normally on Wednesday. According to the department's press office, "activities will be closed as soon as it is possible to leave safely".
Context: TCP chief arrested in previous month
Muquiço is territory associated with the Pure Third Command (TCP). Last month, Bruno da Silva Loureiro, 43 years old, known as Coronel do Muquiço and identified by security forces as one of the most wanted criminals in the state, was arrested at Ronaldo Gazolla Municipal Hospital, in Acari, when he was hospitalised to treat an infection and about to undergo surgical procedure.
Bruno has a record of charges for homicide, drug trafficking, robbery, bodily injury, receiving stolen goods, illegal weapons possession and criminal association. Among the crimes attributed to him is the murder of Sther Barroso dos Santos, 22 years old, killed in August of last year after refusing to leave with a drug trafficker during a funk dance in Senador Camará. According to the investigation, the young woman was removed from the party, beaten and tortured before her body was abandoned at her home's door.
The drug trafficker is also identified as the mastermind behind the execution of Vitor Lima da Cunha, killed in 2022 after defecting from TCP to the Red Command. This inquiry led to the indictment of the former adviser to state deputy Val Ceasa, Michael Johnny Vianna de Azevedo, suspected of having participated in payment for the homicide. The name of Coronel do Muquiço also appeared in investigations by the Public Ministry regarding alleged links between members and former members of Val Ceasa's office and members of the faction.
