Wanted man identified by facial recognition detained on federal highway

A 40-year-old man wanted by the courts for rape of a vulnerable person and domestic violence was arrested on Saturday afternoon (5th) during a check on BR-050 in Uberaba, in Triângulo Mineiro. According to g1.globo.com, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) had two arrest warrants against him, both issued by the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJSP).

The stop took place as part of Operation Independence, conducted by the PRF on federal highways in the region. During the check, officers noticed excessive nervousness on the part of the driver, who also presented no document with a photograph.

The suspect initially provided his own brother's name in an attempt to conceal his identity. Faced with suspicion, the PRF requested reinforcement from other security bodies — Military Police (PM), Penal Police, and Federal Police (PF) — and activated a facial recognition tool to confirm the identity of the person being stopped.

With identity confirmed, officers found the existence of two active warrants against the man: one relating to the crime of rape of a vulnerable person and another for domestic violence. The suspect was taken into custody and remanded to the police authority in Uberaba, where he remains at the disposal of the courts.
