A man was taken into custody on Thursday in Francisco Beltrão, in south-west Paraná, accused of kicking his own three-year-old daughter. The arrest was ordered by the state Civil Police following the release of video footage showing the violence.
The incident occurred on the previous Sunday on a public street in the locality. The assailant kicked the child in the face while walking with her and with her five-year-old stepbrother. Surveillance cameras in the area captured the moment.
After the case came to light, the state police force opened an investigation. The first step was to locate the victim, identify the family members and ensure their safety. Immediate protective measures were requested for the mother and the two children. The Guardianship Council was notified to monitor the incident.
On Wednesday, before the arrest warrant was issued, the man appeared voluntarily at the police station. During questioning, he confirmed the assault and claimed that he reacted because the child was crying. He said, however, that he did not fully remember what happened. Upon viewing the recordings, he admitted to being responsible for the kick.
Detective Anderson Andrei Grosso, who is handling the case, reported that several people were interviewed. The evidence gathered also indicates injuries caused to the other child on an earlier date. The assaulted girl underwent medical examination, and agents are awaiting the results of the exam.
The investigation team continues to gather statements and search for new surveillance camera footage to reconstruct the route taken by the man and the children before and after the incident. The inquiry continues in order to clarify all details and check whether there were other episodes of assault.
