Forward David, of Vasco da Gama trained by Pedro Emanuel, was subject to search and seizure warrants on the morning of this Monday as part of an investigation into interstate drug and arms trafficking, reports Google News PT — Crime (pt). After giving statements at a police station in Leblon, the player returned to the Moacyr Barbosa training centre and participated in the team's training session without any restrictions, according to Globoesporte.
The operation was conducted by the Civil Police of Espírito Santo and took place simultaneously across several Brazilian states, also covering the athlete's residence. David was alone at home and accompanied the proceedings, during which a mobile phone, computers and documents were seized. The player subsequently travelled in his own vehicle to the training centre, choosing not to make any statements to the press on his way out.
Officers arrived at the training centre before the morning session began, which meant that several players and staff encountered the police presence upon arrival. In the dressing room, officers searched David's belongings, finding only his football boots. Technical director Felipe Maestro and football manager Clauber Rocha received the police officers on site.
Vasco da Gama stated that it is cooperating with the authorities and is awaiting the conclusion of the investigations. The Civil Police of Espírito Santo indicated that the investigation is examining the possible involvement of other professional athletes and businessmen in the criminal group.
The operation mobilised approximately 100 officers, more than 38 vehicles and two helicopters. In a statement, the force stated that "the operation is part of joint action between the Civil Police forces of the states for the fulfilment of judicial measures and tackling criminal organisations operating across state lines".
