Young man detained for pet shop robbery in Greater São Paulo
An 18-year-old man was captured by Military Police in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, suspected of being part of a group that robbed a pet shop in Osasco in early June. Kauan Xavier da Conceição was located after investigators received information about his whereabouts and was detained without resistance.
The commercial establishment was invaded by two individuals carrying weapons. They subdued the owner of the business, who was on the premises with his young daughter. One of the robbers forced the shopkeeper to lift his shirt, whilst his accomplice climbed over the counter to search for cash from the till.
After collecting the available money, the thieves abandoned the pet shop. The recordings from the establishment's surveillance system were crucial in allowing investigators to track down those involved.
Kauan was already the subject of a court arrest warrant. With his capture, two people have now been arrested in connection with the case. The courts may impose a sentence of up to one decade of imprisonment for the crime of robbery.
