A doctor specialising in neurosurgery was detained on Monday evening (13th) on Avenida Paulista in São Paulo when stopped by the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) in a vehicle that imitated an official police car.
The professional, identified as Douglas Ramos, was driving a Mercedes with a luminous flashing light — giroflex — installed inside, equipment whose use is prohibited for civilians. The officers noted that he was travelling in an irregular manner.
Officer Caio de Almeida explained that the team decided to approach the car to verify whether it was a security professional who would be assisting with traffic or an imitation police vehicle. When questioned, the driver stated he was a doctor and justified using the equipment by saying he was running late for a professional appointment.
During an inspection of the vehicle, officers seized a G19 pistol model, 9 millimetre calibre, and a .357 revolver, the latter found inside a bag. The neurosurgeon presented his personal documents but was unable to show the paperwork proving the weapons were legal.
He claimed to be registered as a CAC (Collector, Sport Shooter and Hunter), but admitted he had left at his residence the documents proving the legality of the firearms. The vehicle also displayed a sticker from a special forces unit of the Armed Forces on the rear.
The incident was recorded at the police station in the Jardins region. The suspect was required to appear at a custody hearing on the morning of Tuesday (14th).
