Impact Operation on São Paulo motorways results in record seizure and arrest of fugitive

The Military Police of the State of São Paulo seized 576 kilograms of drugs and arrested a man convicted of child sexual abuse during Operation Impact – Integrated Canine Unit, conducted between Wednesday (4) and Thursday (5) on the state's main motorways, according to agenciasp.sp.gov.br. In total, 1,099 people were stopped and 111 vehicles inspected.

The operation was coordinated by the Motorway Policing Command and the Shock Policing Command, with support from drug-detection dogs from the 5th Shock Police Battalion and the Sector Canine Units of the Special Police Battalions. Teams were strategically deployed across the Presidente Castello Branco, Raposo Tavares, Bandeirantes, Anhanguera, Cândido Portinari, Washington Luís and Attílio Balbo motorways, inspecting coach buses, cargo trucks and other vehicles.

"This year alone, Motorway Policing has already seized 80 tonnes of drugs on São Paulo motorways, directly contributing to the weakening of organised crime," said Colonel Hugo Araújo Santos, commander of the Motorway Military Police. Santos also highlighted that the use of drug-detection dogs accelerates the inspection of luggage and vehicles, increasing the effectiveness of seizures.

Colonel Rogério Nery, commander of Shock Policing, reinforced the role of the animals in the operation. "The seizure of more than half a tonne of drugs demonstrates the importance of this specialised work and the integration between police units in intercepting the transport of narcotics and weakening the logistics of organised crime," declared Nery.

Suspicion of fuel theft using signal jammer

In the early hours of Wednesday (4), police stopped a truck on the Presidente Castello Branco motorway in Itapevi, in the Greater São Paulo area, after identifying a suspicious signal interference in tracking systems. Inside the cab, they found a signal jammer — known as a "jammer" — in operation.

According to the Military Police, the driver had diverted his route after loading the vehicle in Barueri. The suspicion is that he intended to deliver the fuel — approximately 100 litres — to a person at a petrol station at km 48 of the motorway, in Araçariguama. As the supposed buyer failed to appear, the driver was returning to Barueri when he was intercepted.

The police also established that the man had used the same method to steal fuel at least three times a week. He was taken to Itapevi Police Station, and the truck was seized.

Fugitive convicted of rape arrested in Ourinhos

In the morning of Thursday (5), police stopped a car with four occupants on the Marechal Rondon motorway in the Ourinhos region, in the interior of São Paulo. During a check of the driver's details, they found that he was wanted by the courts for child sexual abuse and had an outstanding arrest warrant.

The man had been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for the crime. He was taken to Lençóis Paulista Police District, where he remained at the disposal of the courts.

The operation mobilised teams from six Motorway Military Police battalions, as well as the Tactical Motorway Patrol (TOR), the Battalion for Special Police Actions (Baep), the Company for Special Police Actions (Caep) and the 5th Shock Police Battalion.
