Court authorises arrests and asset freezes in Operation Trojan Horse in Bauru
The Regional Court of Guarantees of the 3rd Judicial Administrative Region (RAJ) in Bauru granted precautionary measures against suspects investigated for alleged fraud in a tender valued at R$ 5.2 billion, according to information from tjsp.jus.br. The operation, named Trojan Horse, was launched on Wednesday (9) by the Special Task Force for Combating Organised Crime (Gaeco).
The investigative actions covered three cities—Bauru, Sorocaba and São Paulo—and targeted the concession for the integrated solid waste management system in Bauru. The contract under investigation would have a 30-year term.
The coordinating judge of the Regional Court of Guarantees in Bauru, Josias Martins de Almeida Júnior, issued search and seizure warrants and arrest warrants after analysing the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office. Asset and financial freezes of the suspects were also ordered.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office investigation, the tender was allegedly steered from the phase of preparation of technical studies. The investigation also includes suspicions of payment of improper advantages, confidential sharing of documents and attempts to interfere with oversight bodies.
The measures aim to preserve evidence, identify the origin and destination of any payments and individualise the conduct of each suspect. The operation received support from the Military Police and the São Paulo State Court of Accounts.
