The Special Action Group for the Fight Against Organised Crime (Gaeco), attached to the São Paulo Public Ministry, launched a joint operation with the Military Police on Tuesday (7) to investigate an alleged scheme of manipulation in municipal tender processes.

Searches were carried out at four properties located in the capital of São Paulo and the metropolitan region. The action aims to determine the involvement of two former employees linked to the Infrastructure and Public Works and Subprefectures secretariats.

Officials dismissed in March

According to the investigation, the former employees allegedly acted to benefit companies previously selected in public tenders, receiving undue advantages in return. The prosecutors are also examining evidence that those investigated acquired properties, vehicles and other assets through shell companies, with values that do not correspond to formally declared income — which could characterise concealment of assets of illicit origin.

The crimes under investigation include corruption, tender fraud and money laundering. The case is proceeding under judicial secrecy.

City Hall's response

The administration of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) reported that in March this year it ordered the preventative dismissal of six employees after receiving information about alleged irregularities. The municipal administration reiterated that it does not tolerate misconduct and will continue to cooperate with authorities so that the allegations are investigated rigorously.
