Police forces from 16 states carried out court orders on Thursday against virtual communities that disseminate violent material and radical discourse on the web. The initiative, named Operation Lumiar, had begun in May and resulted in thirty search and seizure warrants, one arrest and nine internments.
Investigators point out that the suspects were members of online environments dedicated to spreading material of extreme violence. In these spaces, messages circulated encouraging self-harm, suicidal thoughts, cruelty to animals and aggression towards other people.
In addition, hate speech against minority groups was detected, material linked to extremist and supremacist ideologies, apologies for criminals, as well as symbols and narratives characteristic of virtual radicalisation networks.
The analyses point to interactions that strengthened self-destructive conduct, treating violence as a means of personal and social assertion and encouraging discriminatory attitudes.
Police forces from Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Piauí, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo acted jointly.
National coordination was handled by the National Secretariat of Public Security, through the Laboratory of Cyber Operations. Collaboration between the states made it possible to locate suspects in various regions of the national territory and apply preventive and repressive measures to reduce risks and protect the population.
Planning stemmed from the detection of recent danger signals on digital platforms, with emphasis on prevention and early blocking of possible threats.
