Police operation dismantles illegal lending network in São Paulo interior
Security forces from São Paulo conducted an operation on Tuesday (14) in General Salgado to dismantle a criminal gang accused of exploiting debtors through illegal collection practices. The investigation began after victims reported being coerced within a financing system with exorbitant interest rates.
While executing judicial search warrants, investigators located a range of assets and documents. The material gathered included pistols and revolvers, ammunition, a sum exceeding twenty thousand reals in exchanged notes, hundreds of blank chequebooks, pieces of gold and silver, cars, notebooks with financial notes and other evidence that, according to law enforcement agencies, sustained the gang's operation.
No one was detained during the operation through the time the article was published by the G1 Rio Preto e Araçatuba portal. The investigative work remains open to track down other members of the gang and identify additional people harmed by the scheme.
The operation reinforces the efforts of authorities to curb loan-sharking practices that affect residents of municipalities in São Paulo state.
