Paraguayan arrested at Foz customs with more than 300 kilos of cannabis
A Paraguayan citizen was arrested at the Friendship Bridge Customs office in Foz do Iguaçu whilst attempting to enter Brazil with 310.3 kilos of a substance similar to cannabis. His companion managed to flee to Ciudad del Este.

A man of Paraguayan nationality was arrested during a customs inspection at the Friendship Bridge, on the border between Paraguay and Brazil, after being discovered transporting a large quantity of drugs in his vehicle. The operation took place last Saturday and was reported by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service.
Brazilian officials, with the collaboration of police dog Urla, inspected an automobile bearing a Paraguayan registration plate that was circulating with two people on board: the driver and a woman accompanying him. During the search, 310.3 kilograms of a substance similar to cannabis were found.
When the agents began the stop, both occupants attempted to flee towards Paraguay. The driver was unable to evade the authorities and was taken into custody of the National Force. However, the woman managed to cross the bridge and return to Ciudad del Este. The arrested man, the automobile, and the seized drugs were transferred to the Brazilian Federal Police headquarters in Foz do Iguaçu.
This case is added to another of similar characteristics that occurred just four days earlier. On Wednesday, 8 July, two more Paraguayans were arrested at the same checkpoint of the Friendship International Bridge, also with the assistance of police dog Urla. On that occasion, they were transporting 500 kilos of cannabis hidden in a false floor compartment of a truck bearing a Paraguayan registration plate. The suspects, the vehicle, and the drugs were sent to the same police station in Foz do Iguaçu. One of those arrested in that operation was turning 33 years old on the day of his arrest.
Both operations involved agents from the Federal Revenue Customs office, members of the Fire Department, personnel from the National Force and the Brazilian Federal Police.
