The Federal Police executed a search and seizure warrant on Wednesday (8) at the residence of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in Brasília, searching for weapons, ammunition and registration documents. According to cnnbrasil.com.br, the information was published by a Bolsonaro lawyer and confirmed by CNN with investigators.
Agents remained at the property for approximately one hour and thirty minutes. The warrant was issued by Federal Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes, according to a post by the former president's lawyer João Henrique N. de Freitas.
The former president's son, Carlos Bolsonaro, criticised the operation. "Nobody can stand any more persecution, injustice and torture," he wrote. Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), presidential pre-candidate and also the former president's son, condemned the search and seizure during a YouTube livestream.
Flávio reported that his teenage sister was removed from her bedroom so that agents could check the location for weapons, which allegedly caused distress to the family. He also linked the operation to his presence in the United States, where he seeks to persuade the Donald Trump administration against the implementation of tariffs. "A clear attempt to create a smokescreen at this moment when I am here working for Brazil," he stated.
The senator added that Bolsonaro's defence had previously communicated information about the weapons. "Since last Friday, the defence has been providing information. Clearly, with transparency, everything reported to Alexandre de Moraes," Flávio declared.
Lawyer João Henrique N. de Freitas confirmed having accompanied the proceedings and published that the warrant covered weapons, ammunition, accessories and registration documents, emphasising that the defence had provided the information in advance.
