Military police seize AK-47 rifle in drug laboratory in Paraisópolis community, São Paulo
Military police officers discovered, on the night of Tuesday (7), a building in the Paraisópolis community, south zone of São Paulo, that served as a drug production centre for organised crime. At the location, agents seized an AK-47 rifle.
The heavy-calibre weapon had a loaded magazine of the spiral type, which allows for a greater number of shots, in addition to other conventional loaded magazines.
Inside the building, the teams identified three distinct areas — without specification as to whether these were individual rooms or complete flats — each dedicated to a different phase of the drug trafficking chain.
In the first area, a refinery operated with a large quantity of cocaine already mixed, ready for the final stages of preparation. There were also several pieces of equipment used in the processing of the substance.
In the second space, tablets of cocaine base paste and materials used in packaging the product were found. The AK-47 rifle was hidden in the plaster ceiling of the third location.
According to the corporation, the arrangement of the items and the structure of the property show that the building operated as a genuine criminal industry, concentrating several stages of the manufacture and distribution of drugs.
Police officers also found signs that the location was used for testing drugs, which suggests it functioned as a kind of showroom before distribution.
The area was cordoned off for forensic examination and the case was registered at the 89th Police District.
