Federal Police searches Bolsonaro's home in Jardim Botânico for weapons
The Federal Police conducted searches at the residence of former president Jair Bolsonaro in Brasília, looking for weapons and documents. His defence lawyers assured that nothing was found.
Searches at Bolsonaro's residence conclude in less than an hour
The Federal Police conducted searches on Wednesday at the residence of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, in Jardim Botânico, in Brasília, according to reports advanced by Correio da Manhã based on information from Brazilian newspaper G1.
The warrant authorised the search and seizure of firearms, ammunition, accessories and registration documents. The operation was completed in less than an hour, and Bolsonaro's defence lawyers stated that nothing was found.
STF decision suspends collector registration
The police operation is part of a decision by judge Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), dated 3 July. Moraes determined the maintenance of Bolsonaro under house arrest — following the end of the initial 90-day period — and ordered the revocation of his 'Collector, Sport Shooter and Hunter Registration'.
In the same decision, Moraes ordered "the immediate seizure of all firearms" linked to the former president, considering that his current situation is incompatible with weapon possession. The magistrate specified the set of weapons that should be handed over.
Army delivers only six of eight missing weapons
Bolsonaro's defence informed the STF that, of the ten weapons mentioned in the decision, two had already been handed over to the Federal Police in 2023. The remaining eight were stored at the Army Police Battalion in Brasília.
In light of this information, the president of the STF determined that the Army itself should proceed with the delivery of the eight weapons to the Federal Police within 48 hours. The Army confirmed that it had delivered only six of the eight weapons mentioned by the defence, indicating that it did not have the two missing weapons in its possession.
