Federal Police arrest eight suspects in cocaine trafficking and illegal arms sales operation in Salvador

Operation Krampus Narco targets interstate trafficking network and arms trade in Bahia

The Federal Police launched Operation Krampus Narco on Thursday (29/10) in Salvador and four other cities across the country, according to information from gov.br. The operation was carried out jointly with the Integrated Special Correctional Force (Force/Coger/SSP-BA) and the Special Task Force to Combat Organised Crime at the Bahia Public Prosecutor's Office (Gaeco/MPBA).

A total of eight preventative arrest warrants and eight search and seizure warrants were executed in the cities of Salvador and Amélia Rodrigues in Bahia, as well as São Paulo, Guarujá and Santo André in São Paulo.

The 2nd Guarantees Court of the Salvador District issued the judicial orders and also determined the freezing of assets and funds belonging to the investigated individuals of up to 10 million reais, as well as the suspension of economic activities of 13 companies linked to the group.

The investigation examines the activities of a criminal association focused on interstate cocaine trafficking and the illegal sale of firearms for restricted use, with branches in Bahia, Alagoas and São Paulo. Money generated by the organisation circulated through bank accounts held by third parties and shell companies, which indicates money laundering.

The operation is an offshoot of Operation Krampus, launched in 2025 against an organisation specialised in crimes against financial institutions. One of the individuals investigated in that operation also coordinated drug transportation and the illegal sale of firearms.

Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved and to deepen the investigation into the laundering of funds obtained through criminal activity.
