On Wednesday (8), federal police officers seized a rifle that belonged to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The equipment, a gift from a weapons factory, was located at a unit of the company situated in Cachoeirinha, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The weapon bore a special decoration: the colours of the Brazilian flag — green, yellow, blue and white — and the motto "Order and Progress". The agents located it inside a compartment, along with empty magazines.
It was the last specimen not yet seized among all those owned by the former head of the Executive. The Supreme Court had ordered the total seizure of items registered in Bolsonaro's name, a decision motivated by the discovery of a pistol with a member of his protection team during an inspection in Brasília on 16 June.
The rifle had been delivered to the politician in 2022 and had already been transferred to his registration in the official weapons registry system. Nevertheless, he never went to collect the object in the south of the country.
The ex-president's lawyers informed the Supreme Court that the rifle was in the custody of the manufacturer, although they did not indicate the precise location nor present papers attesting to this version.
A company executive demonstrated, according to a Federal Police report, willingness to assist the judicial authorities and asked the police officers to remove the weapon from his home.
A photograph of the rifle, produced by Maestro Arms Company, was attached to an official letter sent to the Supreme Court by the responsible delegate. In the document, the officer detailed that the equipment was stored in a case, with magazines without ammunition, and displayed a painting inspired by national symbols.
