São Paulo's Civil Police arrested two women of Chinese nationality on Wednesday (10) suspected of being part of a criminal group that commands methamphetamine trafficking in the centre of São Paulo.
The arrests are part of investigations into the murder of Jingwey Su, a 35-year-old Chinese immigrant, killed in November of last year on Senador Felício dos Santos street, in the Liberdade neighbourhood. According to delegate Bruno Cogna of the DHPP, the victim maintained ties with criminal organisations from his country of origin and actively participated in the drug trade.
"We discovered evidence in his belongings, as well as conversations exchanged through applications, which prove recurring negotiations linked to trafficking," said the investigator. Police believe the crime was motivated by internal conflicts within the drug distribution scheme itself.
One of the people detained in this week's operation is considered the possible intellectual author of the homicide. Two other suspects had already been arrested in March, also accused of involvement in both trafficking and Su's death.
During the operation, officers seized 65 grammes of methamphetamine from the women. The delegate explained that, although the quantity seems modest, it yields approximately 600 doses. Due to scarcity of the product in the Brazilian market, this volume can reach a resale value of up to R$ 200,000.
Cogna stressed that methamphetamine trafficking in São Paulo is concentrated in a restricted circle of Chinese immigrants who operate predominantly in the central region. The source of the drug is still under investigation. The buyers, according to police, are also foreign residents in the city — during the arrests, coins from seven different countries were found, including United States dollars, Argentine pesos and Moroccan dirhams.
The names of those detained were not revealed by authorities.
