The North Centre Public Prosecutor's Office formally charged a defendant with attempted homicide on Monday after he attacked his own public defence lawyer upon conclusion of a custody review hearing at the Santiago Justice Centre, according to biobiochile.cl.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the accused "attacked the victim with a pencil on the neck and then with the shackle chain he was wearing" at the end of the hearing. Four prison guards present at the premises managed to subdue him.
The prosecution requested preventive detention, arguing "danger to the security of society and the victim". The guarantee court approved the most serious precautionary measure.
