Two dead following armed ambush on coastal trunk road, northern Antioquia
Two people were murdered on Thursday, 22 October after being forced to leave a minibus on the road connecting Medellín with the Atlantic Coast, elcolombiano.com reported.
The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on the stretch connecting the municipalities of Yarumal and Valdivia, in northern Antioquia. Armed men intercepted a van travelling on the coastal trunk road at the height of the El Socorro sector.
According to testimonies gathered by authorities, the individuals ordered the driver to stop the vehicle at the side of the road. After verifying the identity of the occupants, they forced two of the passengers to get out and instructed the driver to continue on his way.
One of the witnesses reported that the men exchanged some words with the victims before shooting them, leaving them dead on the public road.
To date, the identity of the two deceased has not been revealed, nor have the authorities confirmed which illegal group would have perpetrated the crime.
The incident reignites concern about security on this road corridor in northern Antioquia, where in recent months there have been attacks against transport operators and the detonation of explosive devices.
