$100 million reward for murder of 10-year-old Jhady Sofía in Frontino, Antioquia
Governor Andrés Julián Rendón offers $100 million for information about the crime involving the girl found dead on 23 September at a farm in Frontino.

Governor of Antioquia announces reward for crime against girl in Frontino
The governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, offered a reward of up to 100 million pesos for information that would permit the identification and capture of those responsible for the death of Jhady Sofía Osorio Mesa, aged 10. According to infobae.com, the girl was found dead on 23 September 2026 at a farm in the Las Cabras settlement in Frontino, western Antioquia.
The measure was announced after forensic results became known, which point, according to the family's account, to sexual assault followed by homicide.
A girl alone for less than an hour
Jhady Sofía lived with her parents in the Las Cabras settlement, approximately 20 minutes from Frontino town centre. She was in sixth grade at the Pedro Antonio Elejalde Educational Institution, Las Mercedes campus, and her mother said she wanted to be a designer, teacher or psychologist.
On the afternoon of the incident, the girl's caregiver left the farm at 3:30 p.m. Her father had travelled to town to buy materials for the family's quail-farming project. Upon returning at 4:20 p.m., he found the girl dead in the exterior corridor of the house, suspended by the neck with a rope tied to a beam that had been used to build a homemade swing that was still unfinished.
Her father untied her and attempted to resuscitate her before calling for help. Neighbours and rescue workers attended the scene, but the girl showed no vital signs. The body was transported to María Antonia Toro de Elejalde hospital by the Fire Department, as the Police did not send patrols to the settlement due to public order problems in the municipality, according to a criminal report filed by the Prosecution and published by El Colombiano.
Autopsy reveals sexual violence and homicide
At the medical centre, investigators observed a friction groove in the hyoid and infrahyoid region of the neck. Initial hypotheses considered that it could be a suicide or an accident with the swing. The girl's mother told Caracol Radio that the scene initially led the family to think that Jhady Sofía had become entangled whilst playing, and stressed that the girl had shown no signs of depression or self-destructive tendencies.
Eight days after her death, the family received a call from the Prosecution with the autopsy results from the Forensic Medicine unit. The mother stated that they informed her that her daughter had been a victim of sexual violence, then asphyxiated with a rope, and that the scene had been altered to simulate suicide.
"My daughter was raped, then strangled with a crude rope and then hanged," the mother told El Colombiano.
The Prosecution seeks the person responsible in the immediate circle
The investigation contemplates a second forensic examination to determine whether there are traces on the fingernails, clothing and intimate parts of the victim that would permit identification of those responsible. The Prosecution seeks to establish who had access to the farm during the period when the girl was alone.
"At this moment, really, it could be anyone, and we assume it is someone from our immediate circle," the mother said in conversation with Caracol Radio. Family members also considered organising a demonstration to demand progress on the case.
Governor Rendón called on the General Prosecution to act "swiftly and forcefully" in this case and in other acts of violence against women in Antioquia. The Antioquia Women's Secretariat is supporting the family with legal guidance and psychological care, and will request that the hypothesis of feminicide be examined.
Jhady Sofía was buried in the cemetery of the municipality of Bello. In the Las Cabras settlement, her family members expressed fear at the possibility that those responsible for the crime might remain in the area.
