12 arrests and 34 drunk drivers in island-wide police operations

Twelve people were arrested and 34 drivers were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol during night-time police checks across Cyprus.

12 arrests in island-wide patrols — 724 vehicles stopped for inspection

Twelve people were detained during organised police operations carried out overnight in urban areas across Cyprus, according to Philenews.

The arrested individuals face charges of illegal residence in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, illegal possession of narcotics, driving under the influence of alcohol, drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

During the operations, police stopped 724 vehicles and inspected 924 occupants. In parallel, 76 inspections were carried out at premises, resulting in 13 reports.

Of the 385 alcohol tests that were conducted, 34 resulted in reports. Three preliminary drug tests returned negative results.

During traffic inspections, a total of 319 reports were recorded for traffic violations, of which 113 concerned speeding. Additionally, 15 cases were identified under investigation, whilst 26 vehicles were impounded.

The Police announced that crime prevention and suppression operations continue daily with enhanced presence and targeted actions.
