Two women in police custody over thefts from Nicosia residences

According to Dialogos, police have arrested two suspects, aged 27 and 33, as part of investigations into unlawful entry and theft from residences in Nicosia district.

On Thursday, at around 1 p.m., a 90-year-old woman filed a complaint at Nicosia police station: an unknown woman had entered her home and taken a sum of money as well as a number of items of jewellery.

At around 5 p.m. on the same day, members of Nicosia police located and identified the suspect — a 27-year-old woman. A search of her belongings revealed €560 and a number of items of jewellery, for which she could not provide adequate explanation as to their lawful possession. She was arrested in flagrante delicto for unlawful possession of property.

During questioning, the 27-year-old allegedly admitted to the theft from the elderly woman's residence and named a 33-year-old woman as being involved in other residential theft cases. Both were subsequently arrested on the basis of court warrants and remanded in custody for investigative purposes.

On Saturday, they are expected to appear before Nicosia District Court for the issue of detention orders in relation to two further cases of theft from residences in the district.

Nicosia police continue their investigations.
