Seizure of unlicensed cosmetic preparations at Larnaca airport
The Customs Department seized six vials of unlicensed pharmaceutical preparations for cosmetic procedures at Larnaca Airport on 24 October 2026, according to a statement issued by the Department and reported by Dialogos.
Officials of the Department, following evaluation of information and with the assistance of members of DAOE–YKAN, identified a passenger who had arrived from Greece and subjected his luggage to inspection.
During the inspection, five vials of liquid used in cosmetic procedures were found, as well as one vial of anaesthetic liquid for the same use. The products were initially retained, whilst the Customs Department sent a related request to the Pharmaceutical Services for guidance on their further handling.
On 27 October, the officials were informed that the preparations did not hold a licence for circulation in the Republic of Cyprus. On this basis, they proceeded to formally seize them for breach of article 9 of the Medicines for Human Use (Quality Control, Supply and Pricing) Law 70(I)/2001.
No person was arrested in connection with the incident. The matter is under further investigation by Larnaca Customs.
