The Organised Crime Directorate believes it has identified individuals with key roles in a network distributing large quantities of drugs, according to reports from Politis.
The operation, codenamed 'Grid', was conducted simultaneously in Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol and Famagusta. Among those arrested are both convicted individuals and defendants.
The operation represents an extension of a previous major police operation carried out last February, during which 230 kilograms of drugs were discovered. In relation to that case, five individuals are already being held in custody as defendants, and the trial is being conducted before the Supreme Court in Nicosia.
Since the discovery of the large quantity of drugs, the authorities have continued their investigations targeting the "big fish" of the network. Operation 'Grid' constitutes, according to Politis, the next critical step in clarifying the case.
