A 41-year-old man filed a complaint with Limassol police regarding an online fraud totalling 280,000 dollars, which was perpetrated between September and November 2026. According to Dialogos, police in Limassol district are now investigating a new fraud case involving alleged investment opportunities in cryptocurrencies.

In early September 2026, the 41-year-old found an online advertisement for a company presenting cryptocurrency investments. He subsequently contacted a person who was introduced to him as an investor and was persuaded to make an initial payment of 100,000 dollars.

The perpetrators presented the complainant with alleged significant profits from his investment, a fact which prompted him to gradually make additional deposits. When he requested to withdraw part of his money, the alleged investors began to put forward various excuses, whilst simultaneously demanding the payment of additional amounts under the pretext of procedures to release the profits.

Upon realising that he had fallen victim to fraud, the 41-year-old filed a complaint with police. In total, the perpetrators obtained 280,000 dollars over the course of two months. The Economic Crime Investigation Office of Limassol police took over the case.

Police are urging the public to always verify the legality and reliability of companies and individuals before making any investment or transfer of money, and remind that personal data, access codes and bank account details should never be shared with third parties.
