Murder trial against juvenile in Mannheim
A trial has begun at Mannheim Regional Court against a 17-year-old whom the prosecution accuses of murder. According to swr.de, the young man is alleged to have beaten a 19-year-old woman to death in Käfertaler Wald in March 2025. Because the defendant was not yet 18 years old at the time of the alleged offence, the proceedings are held in closed session and the juvenile chamber applies juvenile criminal law.
The defendant, a Syrian, came to Germany in 2022 as an unaccompanied minor refugee and had no criminal record until then. According to the regional court, he had been in a relationship with the 19-year-old since March 2025, which the prosecution said was characterised by mutual distrust and jealousy. According to the indictment, in February 2026 there was a physical assault, which the young woman reported to the police.
On 7 March, the 19-year-old informed the defendant again that she wanted to end the relationship. The prosecution believes that he then decided to kill her. On the evening of 10 March, both went together into Käfertaler Wald. According to the charges, he attacked the woman shortly after midnight without warning and initially struck her face and head multiple times with his fist. When she was on the ground, he is said to have beaten her severely with pieces of branches. The young woman died from severe head injuries and bleeding.
A jogger discovered the body the following morning. The 17-year-old was arrested the same evening after a special task force of 60 officers had investigated. The indictment was filed in August. The trial is scheduled for 13 days of proceedings.
